Individual Counselling

Are you feeling stressed, stuck, overwhelmed, angry or lost?

Counselling can help.

Sometimes we find it difficult to cope with what is going on in our lives.

Whilst most of the time we are able to manage, sometimes life's challenges exceed our coping strategies and we can end up feeling stressed, stuck, lost, overwhelmed or angry.

Counselling is a process that involves talking to a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe and non-judgmental space. It can be a helpful tool for individuals who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or life transitions.

Here are some ways that counselling can help you:

  • Gain insight and self-awareness: Through counselling, you can gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This increased self-awareness can help you identify patterns in your thinking and behaviour that may be contributing to your difficulties.
  • Develop coping strategies: A counsellor can help you develop coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, or depression. These strategies can include relaxation techniques, mindfulness, and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
  • Improve communication skills: If you are experiencing relationship issues, a counsellor can help you improve your communication skills, learn to express yourself more clearly, and work through conflicts with others.
  • Find support and validation: Counselling provides a safe and supportive space where you can share your experiences without fear of judgment. A counsellor can validate your feelings and experiences, which can be validating and affirming.

If you’re struggling and think I might be the person to help you, the best thing you can do right now is to get in touch. We'll start with a quick chat to explore what's going on for you. If it looks like I can help and we both feel a connection, we'll discuss your options from there.

It's time to take back control and be the driving force of your life going forward.

Common questions I get around counselling...

Click on your FAQ

What is individual counselling

Individual counselling is a type of therapy that involves one-on-one sessions between a client and a trained therapist. The goal of individual counselling is to help the client identify and overcome personal challenges, develop coping skills, and improve overall mental health and well-being.

What can I expect from individual counselling sessions?

Individual counselling sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long and take place on a regular basis, often once a week. During sessions, I will work with you to identify and explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours in a safe and supportive environment. I will use various therapeutic techniques and interventions to help you develop new skills and coping mechanisms.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies depending on the nature and severity of the issues being addressed, as well as the client's individual needs and preferences. Some clients may benefit from only a few sessions, while others may need ongoing support over a longer period of time.

How often will I need to see you?

Sessions are normally weekly initially, and then dialled back to once every two weeks for as long as you need them.

I don't often see people for single or adhoc sessions as this is unlikely to develop lasting change.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, counselling is confidential. This means that what you discuss with me in your sessions is kept private and confidential. I will not share your information with anyone without your explicit consent, except in certain circumstances where I am legally required to do so. (such as if you are at risk of harming yourself or others).

What if I feel uncomfortable during a counselling session?

It's important to remember that counselling is a collaborative process, so it's important that you speak up if you are feeling uncomfortable or if something doesn't feel right.

I’ve had counselling in the past but it didn’t work, will it work this time?

Just because it didn’t work before doesn’t mean that counselling will not work now. It’s possible that there was a poor match between yourself and the counsellor or that you were not in the right place to benefit from counselling.  Counselling can help lots of people in a variety of situations. Whether it is likely to work for you or not depends on a variety of factors so we won't know until we've had chance to talk and explore your situation carefully.

This is why we have an initial call and in that call I will give you my honest opinion on if I think I can help you.

Alongside my qualifications, I have experience helping people dealing with a variety of difficulties including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety & Depression
  • Anger Management
  • Low Self-esteem
  • Relationships
  • Addictions

What Clients Say

Didn't rush me, let me go at my pace

Worked with Julie for a few months, to deal with childhood trauma amongst other things that I felt were holding me back on life. After nearly 50 years thought it was about time I dealt with it. Julie is goatskin understanding. Didn't rush me, let me go at my pace and gave tools to deal with things.

LISA

Calm and supportive style

I met Julie online and love being part of her supportive community. I have benefited tremendously from her love and support. I highly recommend Julie as a coach. Her calm, informative and supportive style as well as her willingness to go the extra mile is just awesome.

Janine Kathleen Shapiro

Genuine and empathic

I needed help after discovering some devastating personal news. I didn't know how to deal with the revelations and Julie helped me to learn to process the very sensitive details for myself whilst offering support and reasoning of what I am experiencing in a very genuine and empathic way.
